Invest in Your Nonprofit Staff Becoming Top-Level Salespeople

My 12+ year business has grown substantially every year - and, especially the last 5 years. I constantly invest in sales coaches. 

 

I love learning from top salespeople and hearing them talk about how they’ve honed their processes, their tone, and approach. They constantly study and refine their sales skills to perfection. Here’s what gets me…

 

Fundraising is sales.

 

But, when I speak to fundraisers around the country I’ve NEVER had anyone come to me saying “We constantly invest in our sales (fundraising) team to get better results.”

 

Nonprofit Leaders: If you want to grow your budgets, diversify your revenue, or scale your gen-ops dollars, you must constantly invest in your staff members becoming top-level salespeople.  

 

And, this is not covered in a $1,000 professional development allowance. That’s a bandaid.

 

These sales tactics I’ve learned? I apply them to the fundraisers I coach. Things like leading a donor to a ‘sale’...how to email in a way that gets the customer to respond…and how to handle objections.

 

Last thing I’ll add:

Often my work feels like Sales 101. But, I find even seasoned fundraisers have rarely had top 1% sales training. It’s mind boggling. You must invest and build an engine that yields your organization’s true need. 

 

It’s fairly simple. There's no quick fix or new trend that replaces the engine.
