This month's podcast is an important one for those of you with revenue models heavily dependent on federal dollars.

You see, my typical client doesn't have a traditional funding model. They're often handcuffed from being too dependent on one source of revenue and want to diversify into larger amounts of general-operating, philanthropic support.

That dependence can be federal donors, reimbursements, earned revenue, a large event, or in-kind gifts. These are all great, but they never give you the flexibility you need to scale your organization by investing in infrastructure and staff.

This is one of the reasons Carina Santa Maria reached out to me last year! She's an incredible leader and licensed clinical social worker who has scaled Shelter Inc.'s revenue over 3X since she took the leadership reins in 2018.

She’s on my podcast this month. You can watch it here on YouTube.

You'll hear exactly how her organization and team has successfully pivoted into greater unrestricted, mid- and major-level gifts. Diversifying revenue beyond government dollars and DCFS reimbursements is not a fast process - but it's a sustainable process.

Last thing…

One of the largest indicators of success with this work is the willingness to STOP doing the things that aren't high-ROI activities or are keeping your staff from doing relational fundraising.

This is critical as your team needs the space to START doing the things that align their hours to dollars.

Carina was fearless in this area! Tune in and listen to how she restructured her Development and Mar/Comm time, reframed her volunteer support, and redesigned her event calendar to support this work. And it's worked!

If this episode sounds like you and you're ready to START doing the things that diversify your revenue too, you can apply to work with me here.
