New Case Study Podcast: Doubling Your Revenue with Mandy Moody!

On this month’s podcast, you’re hearing straight from my client, Mandy Moody, Executive Director of Green City Market, an organization here in Chicagoland securing the future of food.

As an advisor to nonprofit leaders, I’m always honing that ICP (Ideal Client Profile). Who is the EXACT person I want to work with and how do I convey that?

Well, recently I was at a retreat with one of my own coaches and we worked on this concept again together. When my coach asked “Who is the client you get excited about seeing on your calendar?”

I didn’t hesitate. It is Mandy Moody of Green City Market.

Then my coach said, “Describe her.”

Here’s what I wrote about Mandy: Savvy business woman, ambitions, an action-taker, goal oriented, has intention behind her decisions, tech savvy, a great boss and leader, an expert, process-oriented, an A+ student who values a partner . . . and lastly . . . fun and friendly!

I know you'll be just as inspired by her journey and story as I have been! You can listen on Apple Podcasts HERE.

“...Before we were working together I was doing 100% of the HR, 100% of the accounting, 100% of all of these things that I know a lot of your listeners who are [running] young non-profits or they're just small right and they're looking to scale. As executive directors we can find ourselves grinding on everyone else’s stuff, right? [With this work underway,] “we now talk all the time internally about how Sherry helped us put the rock before the sand.”

- Mandy Moody, Executive Director of Green City Market

Here’s a snapshot of what you’re going to hear on today's case study style podcast:

[4:00] Who is Green City Market and how Mandy (their previous DD) shifted into her Executive Director role. She's been scaling the organization tremendously since 2019. Hear about the board's hiring process and how a nation-wide search resulted in her getting the role!

[8:30] The challenge: “Wait, you’re a nonprofit?” What donors are often confused by when it comes to Green City Market.

[10:20] When Mandy came to me she had just overhauled the expense side of her numbers. That allowed us to deep dive into the income and how she'd balance and grow the revenue year after year. Mandy breaks down her numbers and the growth of the organization from 766K (2020) to $1.2M in one year (2021). She's set her sights on $1.6M need this year as a result of the work we’ve been doing together.

[14:20] Growth doesn't stop there. Mandy is confident in thinking big. Why she's positioned to scale to a $2M organization next year and a $3-5M nonprofit in the near future.

[15:35] When Mandy came to me she was already doing so many things right. So, why did she reach out?

[18:30] Mandy has shifted hard into my high-ROI fundraising model - aligning her hours with dollars. Mandy remembers wanting and needing a thought partner to guide her through sticky situations.

[20:20] What accountability to a coach has helped Mandy achieve. Hint: She's shifted from the fundraising grind into leading her team of 12 through methodical strategic steps.

[21:20] What life looked like before we were working together. Mandy shares a phrase about putting rocks before the sand that I've taken to use as my own! ha!

[22:40] How's the shift into major-gift activities been for Mandy so far?

[26:00] Now that Mandy has the solicitation tools in hand to present her organization's financial need, how have her donor conversations changed as a result of our work? “We are ready for this conversation. I’m not winging it.”

[30:00] Mandy is attracting investment-level donors now. Hear her tell a story about how a new donor drilled her on her financials and how she knew every answer!

[35:00] Learn how the work is helping Mandy balance her own fundraising with her growing development team's work.

[40:05] Sitting at the half-way mark of our twelve month engagement, what are Mandy's biggest wins working with me.

As a result of learning her methodology, Sherry’s clients regularly add 7-figures of gen-ops revenue to their bottom line by learning how to attract investment-level donors that WANT to fund their work. But the biggest transformation they experience is knowing the exact strategy, path, and team that will propel them to generate the 2-10X dollars their strategic plans require.
