Transactional Fundraising Versus Relational Fundraising in Your Nonprofit

Often, when a nonprofit organization's Strategic Plans call for growth, there’s often a statement made that goes something like this….“We need to move from transactional fundraising to relational fundraising.”

Honestly, I’ve said that statement too.

But, what’s funny is I don’t think most people REALLY know what that statement even means.

One client asked, “Aren't individual gifts relational? And institutional gifts transactional?”

No.

Have you considered that true relational fundraising might actually be something entirely different than your staff has ever witnessed? There's a next level they haven't ever tapped into?

I see this all the time.

You see, real relational fundraising is different from what we’ve been doing for decades.

Fundraising is NOT all games, tricks, auction items, sponsorships, tickets, raffles, voting competitions, paddle raises, emails, and applications.

The problem is that the ENTIRE SECTOR tells your staff THIS IS THE WAY TO FUNDRAISE.

Honestly, this is why organizations struggle to grow and fully fund their real budgets. It's why dreams within Strategic Plans don't get fulfilled. It's why orgs don't have the gen-ops dollars need for infrastructure to scale.

Is it your year to fix this?
