Guest Podcast Spot: Breaking Down Combined Development & Marketing/Communications Teams

I got to be on another one of Tony Martignetti’s podcasts! If your organization has a combined Fundraising and Marketing/Communications position, you won’t want to miss this podcast episode.

A little behind the scenes scoop...

When I threw out this topic idea to Tony I think he was skeptical. BUT, I literally deal with this issue in EVERY one of my engagements. Frankly, it’s keeping orgs from raising to their true, annual budget...that topic?

Combined Fundraising and Marketing/Communication positions.

These are:

⭐two different roles

⭐two different skill sets

⭐two different pay structures

⭐two different parts of the donor pyramid

What do I mean by that last one? It means those two roles should be aligning their hours and activities very differently and on different donors. This is where organizations get stuck on the spin-cycle and can’t seem to get ahead.

“But, Sherry, we don’t have enough money to hire two separate staff members.”

I’m going to tell you bluntly that the last 10 organizations that said this to me changed their minds after we created their overall financing plan.

There are many solutions to this problem. But, it's rarely a one-sized-fits-all combined dev/mar/comm role that's the best solution. Are you open to looking at it from a different angle?

How about you? Are you open to doing things differently to get different results?
