You Don't Need to Follow the Latest Trends in Nonprofit Fundraising

There’s a webinar topic I always decline. That topic?

The latest trends in fundraising. You know “The 5 things your nonprofit SHOULD BE doing in 2023.”

I’m not one to chase trends.

Am I aware of the trends? Yes.

But, does it change my work in any way? Not really.

The sector is always chasing the one big thing that will “make fundraising easier”.

Not too long ago it was crypto and bitcoin.

Now…ChatGPT.

A few years back, Donor Advised Funds.

A decade+ ago it was peer to peer fundraising. Hello, World Vision and Charity Water.

You know what has not changed? What’s not trendy?

Creating a strong business behind the fundraising engine that attracts investment-level donors. And then building a relationship with them which leads to a solicitation.

It’s not trendy. It’s not sparkly. It’s tried and true.

It’s not the NEXT big thing. It’s the ONE thing that works year after year. Decade after decade.

So, why doesn’t everyone do it?

I find people don’t really know WHAT relationship-based fundraising is. They think they don’t know anyone to build a relationship with. They’ve never been trained how to have one-on-one conversations with donors. So, they don’t.

Do one thing for me? Don’t put too much time into all these things that seem like they will lead to quicker money. Stop making fully funding your mission every year harder than it needs to be.

Whenever you’re ready, here are THREE things you can do next:

See how limiting board members to the Give/Get model restricts gifts in so many ways and keeps your staff from reaching their full fundraising potential. Here to get it.

📈 Work with me to fund your organization’s Strategic Plan and scale your budget by 2 - 5X // If you’re a business-minded CEO already raising MILLIONS but still need more general-operating revenue from individuals and family foundations to invest in growth, you can apply to work with me here.

As a result of learning her methodology, Sherry’s clients become sustainable, diversify revenue, and know how to add significant amounts gen-ops revenue to their budgets. But mostly, their development departments and board have transformed into high-ROI revenue generators – aligning their hours with relational dollars and set free from the limitations of transactional fundraising.
