Subtle Shifts Can Make All The Difference in Nonprofit Fundraising

Fundraising is practical. It's identifying what you need to STOP doing so that you can START doing higher-ROI activities.

That's really the reason I started posting my reframe series on LinkedIn that I often share on Fridays!

Here are a few more examples of these important shifts we all must make...

Shift from:
Our board wants us to apply to be an official charity of the [major city] marathon so folks can sign up and run for us. Another organization they know made $70K.

Shift to:
We’ve equipped our board with the tools and training to know what relationship-based, high-ROI fundraising is. They no longer bring lists of transactional ideas to the table because they know our hours need to be spent more strategically.

---

Shift from:
Company ABC (Fortune 300) has put us back as a line item in their budget post-COVID. Before 2020 it was $10K some years and $5K some years

Shift to:
What can we do to connect and build a deeper relationship with the leaders of Company ABC (Fortune 300) so that we can be in a better position to ask for a mission-aligned, transformational gift in 18 months?

---

Board Scenario: Your ED has exceeded budgeted revenue in the last 11 of the 12 year’s she’s worked for the organization. So, in year 13 when she wants to grow the budget again….

Shift from:
I just don’t know how you’d do it? Let’s start with a conservative budget and consider that approach as the stretch budget.

Shift to:
We believe in your leadership and track record. How can we help?
