Nonprofit Checklist - Is your fundraising team leaving money on the table?

When something’s not working in your fundraising department, how can you hunt for the right culprit?

Too often, we’re fighting to solve the symptom and not the sustainable cure.

You see, leaders reach out with these problems:

🔹Tight cash-flow because of revenue restrictions
🔹Reserve fund too small to be helpful
🔹Not enough gen-ops money coming in for overhead
🔹Funding is too dependent on one thing (gov, grants, event)
🔹Everyone is exhausted and wearing too many hats
🔹Staff is drained by events and appeals
🔹DD isn’t soliciting and can’t find major donors
🔹Board is underutilized or says they don’t know rich people
🔹Simply don’t have enough unrestricted money coming in to do what’s in our Strategic Plan.

Can I be blunt? Very few of these problems get solved by tweaking the fundraising department.

These problems get fixed elsewhere.

These funding challenges get solved at the root of your business. And leadership must start there for long-term sustainable change. Once these core shifts are made, then your development team can learn how to be more strategic and start attracting investment-level donors who get this.

This is why sometimes I work with leaders and boards for months before the fundraising team enters the picture.

It’s in the leader's power to set the team up for success. Are you ready to invest in the root changes that allow you to transform your organization's budget?

Whenever you’re ready, here are THREE things you can do next:
