Nonprofit Fundraising Is Fairly Practical (if we let it be!)

Does your Board Member believe your organization's mission is worthy of THEIR network giving a donation to….WITHOUT getting prizes, gimmicks, or gifts in return? Really?

No auction items. No chicken dinner. No wine pull. No casino night?

Here’s how I can tell they’re not convinced….(real issues with real clients right now)

They:

💬say you don’t know any people who would give

💬“have people” but won’t give the names to the ED or DD for research

💬think they first need a written out elevator speech before they contact anyone

💬are not giving their best gift to the organization you serve on the board of

💬throw a red herring in any time fundraising is discussed (“first we need a Strategic Plan refresh”)

Real talk. Fundraising is more practical than they’re making it out to be.

If they believe your mission is worthy of many people investing in, it’s fairly simple. They frequently share about the mission and introduce people to its leadership.

You board must understand a team with proper training won't often be "asking for money" for 6-24 months. They aren't going to be pushy car salesman. Really. A well-equipped team CAN be trusted with your network.

Leader - Does your team have this proper relational training I'm referring to? Could it be why your board is hesitant to open up their network?

I teach this every day to Nonprofit CEOs and their teams all over the country. Go here if you want to learn about what that looks like in 2025.

Sherry Quam Taylor

Sherry Quam Taylor works with business-minded Nonprofit CEOs whose Strategic Plans require expansive budgets and larger amounts of general-operating revenue for growth. To become investment-level ready, Sherry helps leaders see their revenue potential and helps them see what may be blocking donors from giving in this way. Sherry’s clients know how to attract larger donors by solving the funding challenges at the root of the issue.

As a result of learning her methodology, Sherry’s clients become sustainable, diversify revenue, and know how to add significant amounts gen-ops revenue to their budgets. But mostly, their development departments and board have transformed into high-ROI revenue generators – aligning their hours with relational dollars and set free from the limitations of transactional fundraising.

Sherry attributes the success of her business to her passion for modeling radical confidence to the future CEOs in her house - her two college-aged daughters.
